THE WINE
The grapevines benefit from the ample supply of water and nutrients to yield a wine that is well endowed with fruity aromas and body. The sandy silt soil in combination with the clay furnishes the wine with a lasting, sustaining taste, which merges into a fine bitterness. The high extract content of the wine is a direct effect of the clayey calcareous topsoil and the limestone beds in the subsoil. The calcium carbonate also ensures that the elevated acidity of the wine is well-buffered.
The gently sloped vineyard is located 90 m above sea level on the banks of the river Main. Solar radiation is moderate to high, however morning mists reduce the positive effects of this climatic factor. Cold air descending from the upper slopes can delay the ripening process.
