THE
OBSERVANT VISITOR is hardly
aware of the eventful history of the landscape,
which can be traced back to the
Palaeozoic. This ancient history is preserved in
the long eroded ancient mountain ranges and the
remains of the shallow seas that once covered the
land. The rocks from which our vineyard soils have
developed can be many thousands or hundreds of
millions of years old. Very often, the rocks vary
from young to old within a small distance, which
results in soils with very different properties.
